Highlights

  • AI Talent rushes to organizations with interesting projects and technologies
  • Enterprises knowing what they are doing can get the talent they need
  • The most advanced organizations use a balance or combination of in-house and external hiring

There is no shortage of AI talent if you know what you are doing, says Gartner. Calling the AI talent shortage a myth, Gartner analyst Ms Svetlana Sicular highlighted the key differences between the successful projects and those struggling to move beyond AI prototype phase.

The 2019 AI in Organizations Survey confirmed what we see with most of our enterprise clients – those who know what they do (and why) can get the talent they need.

AI talent comes to you if:

  • The Project is interesting
  • Technologies are cool
  • Life is not wasted on POCs that never reach production

Only 13% of the enterprises said we have a chronic shortfall of talent

Only a quarter of the respondents looked for external hiring while 47% of the enterprises are looking for a combination of in-house and external resourcing.

Gartner noted “the most advanced organizations use a balance or combination of in-house and external hiring 3.2x more than those at the lower maturity levels.

Interestingly, enterprises rely on the top talent within the organization – the folks who already have a demonstrated track record. “Retraining these deft and enthusiastic masters is a true AI talent show”!
