National Australia Bank announced changes to the executive leadership team following the announcement of a new organisational structure by CEO Ross McEwan.

In an announcement reminding the five focus areas, he had earlier listed for NAB, the new-ish CEO restructured the bank into five end-to-end banking businesses “designed around customers” – Personal, Business & Private, Corporate & Institutional, Bank of New Zealand and UBank. The changes to the leadership team reflect this thinking.

Rachel Slade, currently NAB’s Chief Customer Experience Officer, will take over as Group Executive Personal Banking while Nathan Goonan has been appointed Group Executive Strategy and Innovation.

A banking veteran for over 20 years, Ms Slade was at Westpac for more than 10 years prior to joining NAB in 2017. In the new role as Group Executive Personal Banking, Ms Slade will have end-to-end accountability for the home lending and personal banking customers, including the branch network, direct and digital channels.

Leading banks are offering money management features to retain customers as the banking industry is disrupted by fintech and bigtech players. During Ms Slade’s tenure as the Customer Experience officer, NAB provided its customers with a digital option to restrict gambling transactions via its iOS app earlier this year.

RACHEL AND NATHAN ARE TALENTED LEADERS WITH DEEP EXPERIENCE IN BANKING AND WILL PLAY CRITICAL ROLES IN DELIVERING FOR OUR CUSTOMERS AND OUR BANK

Nathan Goonan, currently EGM Strategy and Development, in the new role as Group Executive Strategy and Innovation will be accountable for the execution of the bank’s strategy, innovation and transformation agenda and all mergers and acquisition activity. He will be joining the Executive Leadership team while Ms Rachel has been a member from October 2018.

The other Melbourne based banking leader ANZ Bank also announced a leadership change appointing the Chief Data Officer, Emma Gray as Group Executive, Data, and Automation.
